We started sewing facemasks March of 2020 when folks started getting sick all over the world. A friend sent me a Facebook post that seamstresses were starting to sew fabric masks to help alleviate the shortage in supplies. It made sense to me to jump in and help. I started sewing masks for friends I knew in Police departments where masks were unavailable, veterinary clinics who had given their N95 masks to the human hospital system and now had trouble getting regular surgical supplies for their animal needs, and friends who work at homeless shelters in my city. Some friends contacted me wanting to purchase masks made from my design, so I added them to my Etsy store. By the end of March 2020, my store had earned a “Best Seller” rating and I was often so overwhelmed with orders that I couldn’t find time to sew for my donations. I started taking my listing down on the weekends to get caught up. By the writing of this story in December 2020, we haev sewn over 2,000 masks and provided supplies for another 1,000 masks to local sewing volunteers.

Each Leanna Studios Handmade Face Mask is individually sewn with 100% Cotton Quilting Fabric that is reusable and washable. Pleated for a contoured and comfortable fit with 1/8” elastic ear wraps that extend into the bottom of the mask to form a chin snug that is adjustable. Elastic can be tightened by knotting for a snugger fit if desired. The top has an inserted 6" wire (most are only 3") to form around the nose and cheek area as desired and helps to prevent eyeglass fogging. Our Tailored Design fit features smooth sides that don’t irritate the face and the added elastic length makes for easy adjustment or wearing under chin when not in face position. Simply pull elastic from the pocket if you wish a looser fit around your ears, or tie a knot as pictured for a tighter fit.

Original Pleated Styles

Pleated 2-Layer Style is made from 2 layers of 100% Cotton Quilting Fabric. The optional filter pocket access is at the bottom where there is an inner lip to hold the filter of your choice in place. An additional button hole accesses the nose wire for easy removal or replacement.

Pleated Single Layer Style is made from 1 layer of 100% Cotton Quilting Fabric. Though a single layer of fabric does not give as much blocking power as our 2-layer masks, our 100% Quilting quality fabric weave is denser than bandanna or T-shirt fabric and more breathable then multi-layer masks.

3D Framed Bracket Styles

3D 2-Layer Framed design face mask has an inner bracket! No need to buy an additional bracket that you wear on your skin, under the mask. Sewn to the inner lining, our poly-boning frame supports both layers away from face to protect make-up, provide easier breathing ability and comfort for those frustrated with inner fabric bunching. The inverted pleat design is the perfect pallet for our embroidery options. Optional filter pocket included.

3D Framed Bracket Single Layer has the same Bracket design in a 1-Layer option. The boning is sewn to this single layer, so the stitching does present on the outer side, but in a neat topstitching that compliments the fabric color.
